For UNFPA, Rec Design developed the logo and visual identity for SHIELD, a six-step protocol designed to support frontline responders in assessing risks and developing safety plans for survivors of technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV).
The identity was conceived around the central idea of a shield as a symbol of protection, safety and resilience, while reflecting the programme’s focus on digital environments and technology-related risks. The visual approach needed to communicate a sensitive and complex subject with clarity and confidence, avoiding imagery that could feel threatening, overly technical or stigmatizing.
Designed to work across practical tools, guidance materials, presentations and digital communications, the SHIELD identity provides a recognizable and adaptable visual framework for the initiative. Its clear, contemporary language helps position the protocol as an accessible and actionable resource for professionals working to make both physical and digital spaces safer for women and girls.
